Lead Adult Care Worker

The End-Point Assessment for the Lead Adult Care Worker apprenticeship includes a Situational Judgement Test and a Professional Discussion.

What They Do

As a Lead Adult Care Worker, you will make a positive difference in someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges. You will be expected to exercise judgement and take appropriate action to support individuals to maintain their independence, dignity and control. By providing leadership, guidance and direction at the front line of care delivery you will be instrumental in improving the health and well-being of those receiving care and support.

A Lead Adult Care Worker will in some circumstances have to delegate responsibility for the standard of care provided and may supervise the work of other care workers. This exercising of autonomy and accountability means leading and supporting others to comply with expected standards and Behaviours.

In the Lead Adult Care Worker apprenticeship, Apprentices may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres or some clinical healthcare settings. As well as covering Lead Adult Care Workers this standard also covers Lead Personal Assistants who can work at this senior level but may only work directly for one individual who needs support and/or care services, usually within their own home.

End-Point Assessment Components for the Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship

  • Situational Judgement Test
  • Professional Discussion

Situation Judgement Test

Apprentices will be presented with a range of real-life scenarios about which they are required to answer 60 Situational Judgement Test questions. The assessment will be undertaken under controlled conditions. The Apprentice will have a maximum of 90 minutes to complete the test. The questions will be drawn from the stated Knowledge and Skills elements of the standard and focus on the higher-order competencies.

Professional Discussion

In the concluding assessment element, the End-Point Assessor leads a 45-minute Discussion to uncover additional evidence of personal development activities and how this learning was applied. Apprentices can only undertake the Professional Discussion aspect of the assessment once they have achieved a pass in the Situational Judgement Test.
